Documentary about the "chinese Oskar Schindler" John Rabe, who saved 600 people in house in Nanking during the Nanking Massacre. In China he was a hero, in his native country Germany he received no recognition for his deeds. He died in 1950.

Ben has not yet reached his life goals in his mid-thirties. After various failures, he is now working as an Uber pilot to stay afloat. But instead of finally having his life under control, his trips to Hamburg with a wide variety of passengers bring him new problems. Ben is also preparing for the unexpected fatherhood to come, as Nadja's mother doesn't want any support.

In South Tirol, shortly after ww-ii: Paul and Barbara Holzmann and their son Charlie own a small gasoline station. At their wedding anniversary, of all days, Barbara finds proof that Paul may again have cheated on her. At first she believes his explanations, but when she finds more proof later, she leaves and seeks comfort in the arms of her former friend Nicola in Italy. The story is told from the perspective of her diary.
